STORY

CARING FOR AN ENDANGERED PLANT
Indigenous medicinal plants are Natural Resources and have long history of proven curative properties for various ailments. Rauvolfia Serpentina is one such rare plant.

“Rauvolfia” owes it’s name to the German physician and botanist Leonhard Rauwolf.

During the last few decades global demand for traditional medicines and other herbal products has grown rapidly, leading to over‐exploitation of many of India’s most valuable medicinal plant species. Rauvolfia Serpentina is one such plant species that has faced exploitation

At SHAKOFARMORGANICS we cultivate Rauvolfia Serpentina on our organic farm which is NPOP certified. We adhere to full-scale organic processes, including GMP and GAP and strictly follow all the mandated regulations of Wildlife Protection Act and CITES. Further we also provided a complete handholding to our international buyers on compliances under Indian Law, as this product comes under trade control.

Adoption of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) for Rauvolfia Serpentina has, over the years, enabled us to achieve stellar success in growing this plant through seed germination. Survival rate of our plant is in the range of 22% -25% as against general survival rate of 9% -12%.
